This product is for smiths with a pined front sight. The other part number, replaces the fixed front sight red insert. A friend used the fixed version on a 586 and it worked out well. I found the instructions to be clear and it took me about 10 minutes to install the rear Meprolight sights on a 686. I already had another brand front night sight installed and I elected to leave it on the gun. I am quite satisfied with the Meprolight sights.
